Bursaries

The pursuit of excellence in education for pupils of high academic calibre, regardless of family income, has remained a central aim at the Perse since the School's foundation. A key challenge for the Perse today is to translate the wish of our Founder Stephen Perse, for an endowed free school, within an independent school environment in the 21st century.

The School recognises that the provision of bursaries enriches the school, enhances academic standards, is socially inclusive, and widens educational opportunity. Much progress has been made through the establishment of the School Bursary Fund. This is despite the fact that the Perse receives no government support for bursaries and has no significant endowments to call upon. The School is therefore heavily reliant on benefactors to fund such awards.

The current aim is to double the number of pupils on bursary support at the Upper in decade leading up to 2015 through the establishment of a significant expendable endowment fund. As such, this aim is also a central focus for the Access to Excellence Campaign and the Perse Legacy Campaign.
